Shoprider Sovereign Mobility Scooter

The Shoprider Sovereign is a mid sized mobility scooter manufactured by Roma Medical Aids (RMA) and is sometimes known as the Invamed Shoprider Sovereign. It is available in either a three or four wheeled model.

The Shoprider Sovereign is a Class 2 scooter, having a maximum speed of four miles per hour and an unladen weight of just under 12 stone (74kgs or 163lbs); this makes it legal for use on pavements but illegal for use on roads.

Unlike many Class 2 scooters the Shoprider Sovereign has many features you would expect to find on larger 8 mile per hour scooters; it has a healthy 3.5 inches (9 cm) ground clearance is fitted with front suspension to help navigate curbs of up to 3 inches (8 cm). The Sovereign's ride is further softened by large 10 inch (25 cm) pneumatic tires.

To ensure an optimal ride position the Sovereign comes standard with a seat that can be adjustable forwards and backwards, and a five position tiller. The seat can also be adjusted for width, and if desired an upgrade is available for a full sized captains seat.

The Shoprider Sovereign is powered by a pair of 12v sealed lead acid batteries giving 34a/h total rating. It is supplied with a 3a/h charger. This gives the mobility scooter the power to take a maximum load of 18 stone (115 kg or 250 lbs) and a maximum climbing angle of 8 degrees or 14 percent.

As is the case with most Class 2 mobility scooters the braking on the Sovereign is electromagnetic meaning that to stop the scooter a rider simply releases the throttle paddle.

The compact dimensions of the Shoprider make it one of the more manoeuvrable mobility scooters. It is just a touch over four feet long (49 inches or 125 cm), just under two feet wide (21 inches or 60cm) and stands about three feet high (37 inches or 94 cm).

While the Sovereign can be taken apart and folded down for transportation or storage it should not be considered a travel scooter as it parts are on the heavy side and its collapsed height is larger than a true folding scooter.

The Sovereign is supplied with front and rear lights, a removable shopping basket and floor mats.

Typically retailing at under £900 the RMA Shoprider Sovereign offers excellent value for money especially as it comes with the confidence engendered by the Shoprider brand.
